A few years back I wrote about my journey into digital painting. You can read about it here. I thought it would be a good time to share some of my beginning digital paintings compared to my most recent. Growth doesn’t happen overnight. It takes countless hours of dedication and practice.

IN THE BEGINNING

The first group of paintings are some of my very first digital paintings. Two of them are digital oil and the rest are digital pencil which is my favorite. These are all done by hand as I begin with a blank canvas, usually in Sketchbook, and paint layer after layer just as I do for my traditional paintings. I really did love how these turned out but I began to challenge myself and dive deep into the tiniest details which created the very realistic paintings I hoped for. This extreme attention to detail can be seen in the bottom group.

AFTER SOME PRACTICE

This group includes some of my latest digital paintings. They are all done in digital pencil because with that digital tip I can achieve the realistic style I love. As always, I began with a blank canvas in Sketchbook and painted layer after layer just as I do for my traditional paintings. I am proud of these works. 😁
